Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility Storyline Walkthrough

Tree of Tranquility
Tree of Tranquility has a fantasy-style story line with intriguing puzzles.  In fact, it’s one of my favorite Harvest Moons to date.

Here you’ll find the rainbow restoring recipes, where to find all the necessary ingredients, where to find the Seedling of Hope, and how to make it grow.

Learn everything you need to rescue the Harvest Goddess and restore the island.

How to Find the Rainbow Quilt

You must have both pieces of the Rainbow Quilt before you can talk to the Sprites.

To get the first piece the Rainbow Quilt, ship about 1,000g worth of items. The mayor will come to your house in the morning to tell you some of the story of the island. After you ship more items, he’ll return a few days later to take you to his house, tell you more of the story, and give you half of the quilt. He mentions his son, Gill.

Talk to Gill. He knows more, but won’t tell you until your house is level 2. After upgrading your house to level 2, talk to him again. He mentions Dale.

Talk to Dale. He talks about the Clock Tower.

Catch the Mayor at home in the morning, or around 4:30 pm. Offer to fix the Clock Tower. He’ll give you the key.

Hold the key in your hands and approach the Clock Tower. You’ll find the second half of the quilt and a note from the Harvest Sprites.

Now you can wake the Harvest Sprites.

How to Restore the Rainbows (with Rainbow Recipes)

The Harvest Sprites are sleeping beneath their special trees. To wake them, water their flowers with your watering can. Each Sprite will ask you to collect five items to be used to restore their rainbow. Some of the items can only be obtained at certain times of year, so it’s best to plan ahead.

Daren, The Green Harvest Sprite

Daren’s tree is the large tree off the edge of the town square. Water the flower to wake him, and he’ll give you the following recipe:

Apple
Carp
Grilled Yam
Common Seashell
Good Herb Fish

The apple you can buy from Simon at the Spring Flea Market.

Carp is a common river catch.

Grilled yam can be bought from Maya at the Spring Flea Market.

Find the Common Seashell by beach combing.

Good Herb Fish is made using the oven, a green herb, and any four fish.

After you talk to him with all of these in your backpack, there will be several changes involving the Island. A rainbow bridge will appear allowing you to visit another island. The captain who brought you to the island can now take you to another nearby island. New people will start moving into town.

Colin, The Yellow Harvest Sprite

Colin’s sleeping under the large tree on West Gull Island. Water the flower to wake him and he’ll give you this recipe:

Saury
Banana
Perfect Spinach
Red Wool Yarn
Blue Wonderful

Saury is a fall/winter ocean fish. An alternate way to get one is to befriend any of the game’s cats to 4 friendship, and they will gift you with one.

Bananas can be found by foraging on Toucan Island, or purchased from Samson at Toucan Island’s Inn.

Perfect Spinach can be grown in the fall. Keep all weeds cleared away and use fertilizer for better chances of higher quality.

Red Wool Yarn can be dyed using the dye pot and a red herb. You can process your own from wool from your sheep. Alternatively, you can buy a wool yarn at the Animal Festival and dye it yourself or buy a red wool yarn from Simon at the Spring or Summer Flea Market.

Blue Wonderfuls can mined from blue crystal rocks in Ganache mine.

His Rainbow Bridge connects West Gull Island with East Gull Island.

Ben, The Blue Harvest Sprite

Ben’s sleeping under the large tree by Maple Lake. Wake him by watering the flower. He will give you the following recipe:
 Char
Green Herb
Plain Omelet
Good Tomato
Grilled Eggplant

Char is a common fish caught in the pool at Caramel Falls.

Green Herbs can be foraged in Praline Forest, the fields at Brownie Ranch, or around town.

Plain Omelet can be bought from Simon at the Spring and Summer Flea Markets. You can make your own with the frying pan, using egg and butter. Butter can be made milk in a butter maker or bought at Brownie Ranch.

A Good Tomato can be grown in summer, or bought at the fall Harvest Festival.

Grilled Eggplant can be grilled on the beach, using matches you buy from the general store, then light the firewood stack. Eggplant is a fall crop, you can either grow it or buy one from Souffle Farm.

Ben’s Rainbow Bridge goes to a meadow below Mt. Gelato, but you won’t be able to use the bridge until you recover his lost badge.

To find Ben’s badge, talk to Colin (finish his rainbow if you haven’t), then talk to Ben again. Ben will remember he lost it in the river. Go beach comb on East Gull Island. When you see a shining spot, walk up to it for a cutscene. Take the badge back to Ben.

Now you can use his bridge.

Alan, The Red Harvest Sprite

Alan’s tree is on the hill at Brownie Ranch. Water the flower to wake him, and he’ll give you the following recipe:

Toadstool
Wood Fish
Carrot Cake
Ostonnaise
Green Bell Flower

Toadstools can be picked up in Ganache mine.

Wood Fish is a rare night catch from the Goddess Spring, requiring skill 3 and a gold pole.

Carrot Cake can be made with breadfruit, egg, butter, milk, and carrot, using the oven, or it can be purchased from Elli at the Fall and Winter Flea Markets.

Ostonnaise is made by putting an ostrich egg in the mayonnaise maker. It can also be purchased from Maya at the Spring and Summer Flea Markets.

Green Bell Flowers can be grown in winter using seeds bought from Sampson at Toucan Island’s Inn. You can also get the seeds from Taylor, if he’s on the Island, or from Craig at the Fall Harvest Festival.

Alan’s Rainbow Bridge connects to the top of Mt. Gelato.

Edge, The Purple Harvest Sprite

Edge’s tree is on Mt. Gelato. Water the flower to wake him, and he’ll give you the following recipe:

Tuna
Red Honey
Lapis Lazuli
Snowflake Flower
Perfect Honeydew

Tuna is a rare fish you can catch in the ocean in spring, fall, or winter, with a silver or gold pole.

Red Honey has a chance to be harvested if bees appear over any red flower you grow.

Lapis Lazuli can be found in the present behind Mayor Hamilton’s house, or appraised from a blue wonderful with one shine from Ganache Mine.

Snowflake Flower can be grown in winter or bought from Candace at the Spring or Summer Flea Markets.

Perfect Honeydew can be grown in summer, or purchased from Souffle Farm.

Edge’s Rainbow opens the top of the Goddess Tree, but it dead ends. Talk to Edge again.

How to Find the Seedling of Hope

All villagers will talk about the Seedling of Hope, at this point, but it is Jin who gives you the clues to advance. Talk to Jin when he’s at Meringue Clinic, but not sitting down.

Follow his clue to the lighthouse, and search the stairs and lighthouse until a cutscene triggers.

Plant the Seedling at the Goddess Spring, by holding it then walking forward, and pressing A when you reach the hollow circle.

Talk to Calvin. His clue will lead you to the 10th floor of Ganache Mine and another Seedling.

Plant that Seedling at the Goddess Spring.

Talk to Gill.

Talk to the Mayor at night when he is at the bar in Sundae Inn (around 6pm at night, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays). Ask him about a seedling, then a secret. At the list of options to ask more questions, ask him about each one in the order they appear. If you do it right, he’ll give you a clue to find the key to the locked door in his house.

Go to the church the next day and search the altar.

Take the key to the Mayor’s house when he’s not home, and open the locked door. This leads to the garden, and another seedling.

Go back to the Goddess Spring and plant this seedling, too.

Exit the spring, and go back in.

How to Grow the Seedling of Hope

The tree’s growth is tied to your friendship with the villagers. Pets and wild animals count, too. You need a total of 50 friendship hearts for the tree to reach full growth.

Befriending your pets is based on taking good care of them. You can befriend the wild animals the same ways you befriend villagers: talking to them, and giving them gifts.

You could well already have this number of hearts by this point in the game. If you do, each night as you go to bed you’ll see the tree growing, until it reaches full grown. If you don’t, you’ll see the series of four cutscenes as you reach each of four heart target goals on the way to 50.

When the tree is fully grown, Edge will send a letter asking you to meet him at the top of the Goddess Tree.

How to Rescue the Harvest Goddess

Meet Edge at the top of the Goddess Tree. The sprites will have you help them mix one final rainbow, connecting the tree to where the Goddess is trapped in the clouds.

When you finish this, the storyline is over and you’re no longer able to climb Edge’s Rainbow. From now on, you will find the Goddess at the Goddess Spring.

The next day, you’ll receive a letter from Toby and access to the secret cave behind the waterfall at Caramel Falls will be opened. You can catch a few rare fish there.

The game is open-ended and you can play as long after this as you like. If you prefer, and if you have a child, you can make a Journey Rucksack and pass it to your child, to continue playing as that child.
